Deputy Food & Wine Editor
The San Francisco Chronicle seeks a deputy editor to help lead its award-winning Food & Wine team. This editor will report to the Food & Wine editor; together they'll work closely to oversee the team's daily operations, ensuring we are first to news on openings, closings, trends and industry happenings. This editor will also collaborate on our Top Restaurants and Wineries program and other utility food guides. Candidates should be able to deliver polished copy in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a positive and creative communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment and holds a deep commitment to journalism that is fair and inclusive.
What you will do:
• Help lead the Chronicle's Food and Wine coverage
• Edit daily stories and guides by reporters and critics
• Work collaboratively with teams, including digital, photo, data and design
What it will take to be successful:
• At least three years' experience at a daily newspaper, magazine or web publication or the equivalent as a reporter and/or editor
• Demonstrated expertise in reporting and writing, with strong news judgment
• Ability to collaborate with all newsroom teams and work in a fast-changing news environment
• A passion for the food and wine beat
In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in California. The reasonable estimate is between $80,000 to $95,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in San Francisco. If this role is open to candidates outside of San Francisco, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
