Audience Editor
Job description: We're looking for a versatile journalist to join our audience team. This person will help manage our digital platforms, from the home page and app to newsletters and social media. They will use real-time analytics to power their decisions about content placement and promotion, and will be a key member of the team working to grow our audience reach and deepen our subscriber engagement. They should have strong news-judgement and be capable of working quickly, accurately and with authority during breaking news events. We need a self-starter with high standards who can collaborate well, is comfortable providing and taking feedback, and thrives in a fast-paced, breaking-news-driven environment.
Duties:
• Manage SFChronicle.com and app, balancing sharp news judgment with real-time analytics.
• Help manage social media accounts, breaking news alerts and newsletter campaigns.
• Edit video clips in breaking news situations, producing content that can be shared quickly on social media and embedded into stories.
• Work with editors to write compelling headlines and promotional text that adhere to best practices across a wide range of platforms.
• Monitor search trends and social media for breaking news and audience insights; pitch editors on trending topics or breaking news.
• Audit metadata on stories and projects for SEO and style best practices.
• Help set publication times and plan out our digital editorial calendar.
Who we're looking for:
• 2 years' relevant experience
• Bachelor's or master's degree, journalism focus preferred
• Excellent social media skills; experience with social publishing platforms like True Anthem is a plus
• Basic video editing skills; experience with Adobe Premiere and Canva
• Experience with analytics systems like Chartbeat, Parse.ly or Google Analytics
• Understanding of media ethics
Requirements:
• This position is full-time.
• It will include occasional weekend and night work
In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in California. The reasonable estimate is between $80,000 to $90,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in San Francisco. If this role is open to candidates outside of San Francisco, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
