Assistant Crossword Editor for Puzzmo
Puzzmo is a part of Hearst Newspapers and has the goal of creating the place for thoughtful digital puzzles online. To achieve this ambitious goal, the Puzzmo platform will need to serve Hearst's publications, third-party publishers, and puzzlers all over the world with great games, powerful features, backend tools, and advanced statistics based on a wealth of gameplay data.
As Puzzmo's Assistant Crossword Editor, you will share responsibilities for sourcing, producing, editing, and publishing crossword puzzles, including the ones that appear on puzzmo.comas well as puzzles involved in print books and external collaborations. You will also be responsible for maintaining cultural sensitivity, modernness, preservation of constructor intent in the puzzles and engaging with and supporting the community of solvers online (such as on Discord) and in person (such as through events like Crossword Con).
What will you do?
• Support the sourcing, creating, editing, and publication of crosswords to the Puzzmo platform and for external collaborations
• Work closely with Puzzmo's crossword editor on strategy and community engagement
What will it take to be successful?
Puzzmo's Assistant Crossword Editor will be successful in the role by:
• Contributing their own high-quality crosswords
• Internalizing Puzzmo's technical and cultural crossword standards in sourcing, editing, and publication tasks
• Collaborating closely with Puzzmo's crossword editor
• Communicating regularly with technical colleagues and non-technical colleagues about needs for the crossword program
• Engage closely with the community of crossword solvers
• Being up to date with trends in the broader crossword community

About Puzzmo:
Puzzmo is a new unit within Hearst Newspapers that is dedicated to creating the place for thoughtful Puzzles. Launching in November 2023, Puzzmo will offer a mix of classic game titles and regular new releases by Zach Gage, aiming to appeal to broad audiences and to reach them in partnership with digital publications both within and outside of Hearst.

The base salary for this role is between $85,000 - $95,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
