Assistant City Editor

This is a Full Time Job

Primary Responsibilities:
• Supervise and manage a group of 6-8 reporters

• Assign and edit stories while supervising longer-range enterprise stories

• Other essential duties and tasks as assigned

Critical Skills/Competencies:
• Technical skills at manuscript editing

• Ability to think creatively and critically in order to generate story ideas and, at the same time, carefully vet ideas and stories produced by reporters

• Must have a sense of the team's or section journalism mission and the ability to execute against it

• Must be collaborative and collegial and able to manage relationships with varied constituencies within the newsroom: fellow assigning editors, copy desk, page designers, web producers, photo editors, newsletter editors, social media specialists, and others.

• Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays

Education
/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree required

• 5 or more years' experience on daily newspapers required

• Editing and supervisory experience required

• Excellent editing, writing, management, and organizational skills required

• Must have a valid driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance required
