Hearst Magazines is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team in Charlotte, NC. The current office is in Uptown Charlotte on North Tryon Street, but we will be moving to the Ballantyne area in April 2020.This is a great opportunity to work across many of our iconic brands and be actively involved in a variety of high visibility projects while gaining exposure to senior level management.
The Impact You'll Have:
As a Staff Accountant, you will play a critical role in the running of our financial operations across all our brands. Your organizational skills along with your solid accounting basis will make you a key contributor to the team. Depending on your strengths and area of interest you may focus on General Ledger Account Reconciliations or Editorial Invoicing or A/P. This role is a chance to work with a large and complex organization to hone your client and accounting skills.
What You'll Do:
• You will learn about and work on intercompany processing
• You will be involved in General Ledger Account Reconciliations for Magazine entities such as iCrossing, Hearst Autos, Core Audience, Jumpstart
• You will get the opportunity to do Journal Entry Processing
• You will learn about and be involved in our payroll process for our entity Jumpstart Canada and Allocation Entries
• You may do foreign unit Balance Sheet reviews
• You may do invoicing for editorial material to worldwide partners
• You will do prepaid Expense tracking, accrual entries and variance explanations
• You will have the opportunity to work on special projects and wire payment processing
• Depending on your experience, you may be the Invoice manager – 200 invoices processed and coded. 75% are related to billing which require review of their media sheets. The other 25% are expenses related to rent, etc.
Who You Are:
• You have 2 years of relevant work experience
• You have experience with Excel/Smart View
• You have experience with debits/credits, income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow
• You have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across all levels of management
• You may have experience interpreting legal documents to ensure the financial terms of the license agreements are being followed
• You are a self-starter who needs minimal guidance
• You work well in a fast-paced environment
• You are known for being detail-oriented, deliverable focused, and well-organized
• You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
