This is a Full Time Job
As the Senior Engineering Manager, CMS, you will lead the engineering team developing our next-generation CMS - a mission-critical platform that supports over 140 global Hearst magazines and hundreds of editorial users. You will personally ensure timely delivery, exceptional quality and technical excellence for this project.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Do
• Lead and manage a software engineering team, providing daily guidance, clear performance expectations, and strategic career mentorship.
• Hands-on daily involvement in development, architectural decisions, and complex technical problem-solving.
• Own and actively drive project timelines from proof of concept through production deployment, ensuring critical deadlines are consistently met without sacrificing quality.
• Directly engage in technical problem-solving, providing hands-on leadership and expert-level guidance, particularly in React development.
• Establish and enforce rigorous engineering standards, including robust testing, optimized deployment, and comprehensive monitoring strategies.
• Closely collaborate with Product teams to clearly define priorities and acceptance criteria.
• Own CMS reliability and drive rapid issue resolution to minimize downtime.
QUALIFICATIONS
Who You Are
Requirements / Technology
• Overall front-end development experience: 8 years minimum.
• At least 4 years of intensive, production-level React experience.
• Deep understanding of performance optimization in React-based applications.
• Proven ability to build and manage front-end architecture at scale.
• Expertise in mentoring engineers specifically in modern JavaScript/React development practices.
• Experience with Node.js and GraphQL, demonstrating practical knowledge in building and maintaining scalable systems.
• Deep expertise in observability best practices (SLAs, SLIs, SLOs), alerting, instrumentation, and proactive incident management.
• Proven ability to manage high-quality, rapid release cycles, including effective testing and deployment processes.
• Robust understanding of SQL databases, caching mechanisms, and authentication/authorization strategies.
• Familiarity with Amazon AWS services.

• Demonstrated record of responsibly delivering large-scale, high-impact projects by hiring, coaching, and leading high-performing software engineering teams.
• Proven commitment to team accountability, urgency, continuous improvement, and professional growth for team members.
Bonus Qualifications
• Proficiency in Python development.
• Experience with Apollo.js.
• Experience developing solutions for multi-tenant environments.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging systems.
• Experience integrating identity management solutions like Okta.
• Experience with LLM assisted code generation.
