Men's Health is seeking a smart, enthusiastic senior editor to help shape entertainment and lifestyle coverage across all channels of the Men's Health brand-including web, print, social, and video. The ideal candidate combines an editing and writing background with an affinity for entertainment and pop culture, style and grooming, and men's lifestyle interests and trends. Must be equally comfortable assigning and editing breaking news stories for web; tackling long-lead FOB stories, service packages, and long-form features for print; and brainstorming ideas and approving cuts on our growing slate of video series. Candidates must have 5 years of relevant professional experience in editing at a major consumer print magazine and/or digital site. NOTE: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in .pdf format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work.
Responsibilities:
• Conceive, assign, and edit a wide range of stories in a wide range of formats, from quick news hits to profiles, essays, and features
• Top-edit select stories and help mentor junior staff writers and editors to foster strong interviewing, editing, and headline-writing skills
• Collaborate with the Men's Health video team to shape our growing slate of video series
• Surface compelling, untold stories and respond nimbly to cultural conversations with stories that will generate buzz
• Partner closely with the audience development team to understand and act upon analytics to optimize engagement and traffic
• Seek, manage, and grow relationships with both established writers and up-and-coming voices to contribute to print and web
• Collaborate with the video and design teams to create the best visual treatment for each story, and with the social media team to ensure maximum engagement
• Write relevant news coverage, essays, or profiles as needed
Requirements:
• 5 years as an editor, with experience editing at a major consumer print magazine and/or digital site
• Editorial background in covering movies, TV, music, sports, and/or books
• Strong skills as an editor, tightening and crafting copy
• Good judgment as to what works to drive audience and engagement in digital media
• A collaborative nature
• Excellent at producing content with digital-friendly language
• Versed in using Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, other data tools
• Open to experimenting with content types and persistent reinvention to create appropriate content for a digital audience
