Hearst Magazines is seeking a strategic digital editor with a deep understanding of women's service content to manage daily publishing on WomansDay.com. The ideal candidate is a snappy editor and writer, who can package and illustrate concepts in highly visual and service-packed ways.
Reporting to the editor in chief of Woman's Day, the Senior Digital Editor will manage an editorial assistant and freelance writers, and coordinate with in-house editors and writers, to assign, write, and edit for the site and our social channels. Familiarity with analytics, digital content production tools, SEO strategy, and e-commerce are ideal, along with previous management experience.
Responsibilities:
• Write and edit several stories a day, including news, features, galleries, and SEO stories
• Coordinate and maintain daily/weekly/monthly editorial lineups, assigning stories and updates to in-house and freelance writer/editors to fill content gaps and improve story reach
• Top-edit all new and updated content, guiding the work of in-house editors as well as freelance writers to ensure published content meets deadlines and brand standards
• Track content performance to develop future programming strategies and expand the audience of WomansDay.com with a particular eye to growth in search
• Work closely with the SEO team to strategize and pre-plan around major holidays and events
• Develop content with an eye toward increasing e-commerce sitewide
• Partner with the photo and video editors and designers to develop dynamic photos, graphics and multimedia elements as needed
Requirements:
• At least 5 years as an editor, with a minimum of 3 years working in a fast-paced digital environment, with a focus on editing, writing, and daily programming across various web platforms, including newsletters
• Deep familiarity with strategy & best practices for optimizing content for the web and social media platforms
• Background in producing women's service and lifestyle content for an online property
• Strong sense of visual design and aesthetics
• Creative thinker willing to push the envelope and bring fresh, innovative ideas to life. Open to experimenting with content types and using analytics to switch up strategy when something is not working
• Analytics obsessive who is well versed in using Facebook Insights, Crowdtangle, Google Analytics and more
• Knowledge of photo-editing and graphic design platforms is a plus
• Bachelor's degree
