Full Time Job
Car and Driver is seeking a Road Test Editor, a position that is
responsible for procuring and managing C/D's fleet of 400 vehicles per year that
enables coverage of the entire automotive marketplace. The ideal candidate has
a mastery of logistics, a strong understanding of the vehicle landscape, and
first-class interpersonal skills. This position will report to the director of
vehicle testing and will also work closely with the print and digital
directors, the testing staff, as well as the editor in chief.
This
role is currently based in Ann Arbor, MI but will eventually work from our new
office in Detroit, MI in early 2020.

Responsibilities:
• Scheduling cars for reviews,
comparison tests, and familiarity drives.
• These loans sometimes require
groundwork months in advance with automakers
• Creativity and
diplomacy are necessary
• Establish and maintain a relationship with automakers, their
fleet-management companies, and PR agencies
• Attend local auto shows and drive
events
• Regular check-ins with all
automakers to stay abreast of coming vehicles
• Coordinating events to
support Car and Driver's editorial franchises such as Lightning Lap and 10Best.
• Coordinate with
editors and automakers for which vehicles should attend
• Facilitate
communication between C/D and the automakers before and after events
• Maintaining a fleet of
25-30 vehicles
• Coordinate vehicle
scheduling
• Coordinate vehicle use
during the day
• Photography and videography
• Static testing
• Performance testing
• Comparison testing
(both in and out of office)
• Daytime transportation
(airport, meetings, late arrivals/departures)
• Advise or take action
in case of incident with a vehicle
• Long-term vehicles
• 13-17 vehicles that
remain in the fleet for 40,000 miles or about one year
• Must remain clean and
in good repair
• Must be serviced at
factory-directed intervals
• Must attend to vehicle
requests from editors
• Short-term vehicles
• 10-15 short-term
vehicles that rotate every one or two weeks
• Vehicles must remain
clean and in good repair
• Oversee C/D's
technical assistants
• Mix of full- and
part-time employees
• Facilitate training
• Maintaining files on
all cars
• Logbooks,
documentation, and testing data for long-term vehicles
• Documentation and
testing data for short-term vehicles
• Writing notes and
reviews when appropriate.
