Hearst Digital Media is looking for a whip-smart writer/editor to join Good Housekeeping's dynamic, close-knit team in our New York offices. Reporting to the deputy editor, this person will be responsible for relaunching our parenting and relationships verticals by writing, editing, and developing surprising, innovative, and inspiring content for one of the internet's largest women's lifestyle sites. They'll also contribute to special projects and pitch big ideas for the brand that will resonate with our core audience of women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
We're looking for an ideas-filled person with a fun voice and a sharp eye for smart digital packaging. An organized, detail-oriented creative who loves to write will thrive in this role; someone who is passionate about finding new, enterprising ways to report and package service content, as well as inspirational stories and humorous essays.
In addition to assigning and writing voicey articles, essays, and features, the parenting & relationships editor will occasionally work with our video & social team to produce fun, short-form videos to live within those stories and on social platforms. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is eager to expand our coverage creatively and has a proven track record for reaching new digital audiences
Responsibilities:
• Writing and producing anywhere from 1-3 pieces of content daily, based around original pitches or SEO keywords. Content will include a mix of voicey essays, product-driven roundups and one-offs, inspirational stories and features, listicles, explainers, and advice-driven service pieces about relationships, family, sex, and parenting designed to grow audience and create conversation
• Assigning and top editing copy from freelancers
• Updating top-performing parenting and relationship content as needed for SEO
• Helping to brainstorm and execute larger packages and franchises
• Liaising with the Good Housekeeping Institute's experts as well as outside experts for additional reporting and ideas
Requirements:
• At least 3 years of experience writing and editing women's lifestyle and/or parenting content in a fast-paced digital environment
• Very strong writing, reporting, editing, and packaging skills with a clear, creative, and snappy writing style. Must be comfortable writing in the first person
• Well-versed in SEO best practices with a knack for analyzing traffic trends
• Loves the challenge of making service stories and roundups feel helpful, engaging, interesting, and well-packaged
• Creative strategic thinker willing to push boundaries and bring fresh, innovative ideas to life - especially in new formats such as video series, photo essays, and bigger packages
• Familiarity with Google Analytics, Crowdtangle, or similar reporting tools
• Bachelor's degree or relevant experience
