Harper's Bazaar is looking for an Executive Managing Editor to help deliver the magazine on time, while maintaining content of the highest quality. The EME will be responsible for managing editorial budgets, overall production processes, contract negotiations, staff management as well as partnering with Advertising on brand extensions and other revenue-generating opportunities.
This role works closely with both the Editor in Chief and VP of Content Operations on budgets and day-to-day operations, communicating with edit staff as well as interdepartmental groups such as Advertising, Production, Consumer Marketing, Human Resources, and Finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• BUDGETS: The EME is responsible for working with finance and editorial business managers to manage the budget and look for opportunities to negotiate better rates with vendors and implement systems that will save the brand money.
• CONTRACTS: The EME is responsible for all contracts, ensuring that they are sent out and signed for all commissioned content and that the rights expected from Corporate are obtained. The EME is expected to have experience negotiating difficult contracts and step in as needed to help resolve contract problems. They are also responsible for clearing international rights and permissions as needed for all published material.
• STAFFING: The EME will be responsible for partnering with HR on all people/talent related matters, T&E and IT needs. The EME will work with the EIC to manage the staff and is expected to maintain a professional work environment and help the editorial teams resolve conflicts and workflow issues.
• PRODUCTION: The EME will supervise the assistant managing editors who will manage lineups, copy flow, and book makeup as well as be the liaison with the edit teams, Advertising, and Production.
QUALIFICATIONS
• You have at least 15 years of experience in production at a major consumer magazine
• Digital Print experience and perspective
• Proficient in Adobe CS (InDesign/Photoshop) and WoodWing workflow systems
• A natural and people-centered leader – part editor, part planner, part coach
• Excellent at navigating, delegating, and coordinating many competing priorities to ensure on-time product delivery
• A detail-oriented and organized multitasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment
• Passionate about luxury fashion, culture, and community building
This position is based in the NYC office a minimum of 3 days a week. No remote option.

Salary/Benefits
$175,000.00
- 225,000.00
per year
The base salary for this role is $175,000-$225,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
