Hearst Magazines is looking for a detail-oriented, highly organized, creative junior publicist to join the Communications & PR team. The ideal candidate is a communications professional with PR experience looking to grow under supportive management, working collaboratively within a structured team.
The role requires the ability to quickly prioritize, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will have 1-3 years of experience supporting a PR team, and strong writing and social-media skills. Good judgment, the ability to plan ahead and work efficiently, and a positive attitude are essential.
The Communications & Public Relations team is responsible for driving consumer and trade publicity for Hearst Magazines and its portfolio of brands as well as international communications efforts. This role reports to the Executive Director of PR and supports PR efforts across multiple brands, including ELLE, Harper's BAZAAR, Good Housekeeping, Oprah Daily, and Town & Country.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Do
• Supporting the PR team responsible for generating positive media coverage for the editorial content and business initiatives of Hearst Magazines brands
• Writing and delivering proactive pitches across broadcast, online and print media
• Building relationships with the media, creating and managing media lists, handling press inquiries and proactively following up with key journalists/publications
• Sourcing products and assisting with logistics for national and local broadcast segments with brand talent including drafting talking points, liaising with producers and managing on site elements
• Monitoring coverage and preparing media reports, managing and editing a weekly PR coverage reports and end-of-year press reports
• Researching and managing speaking engagement opportunities, awards and industry events
• Providing on-site PR support at Hearst Magazines events
QUALIFICATIONS
Who You Are
• 1-3 years in-house or agency PR experience with a concentration in entertainment, lifestyle and/or luxury/fashion
• High sense of urgency, critical thinking, organizational and time-management skills and attention to detail in all areas
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills; ability to work with members of the public and colleagues at all levels
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and handle confidential information
• Existing relationships with media organizations and journalists and a strong portfolio of media placements
• Deep knowledge of traditional, digital, and social media channels and an understanding and working knowledge of the media landscape
• Experience managing onsite events and working with executives and brand talent
• Proven ability to work as part of a team and independently motivated to work within tight deadlines and under pressure
• Possess a creative mindset and out-of-the-box approach
