Esquire is looking for an executive editor who will help to reimagine this 86-year-old brand across all platforms, including digital, print, live events, and more. This is a job for an ambitious person who can manage staff, develop and implement strategy and big-picture ideas, and oversee the features department. The executive editor at Esquire should be brimming with ideas and adept at editing a feature story, writing cover lines, top-editing a front-of-book story, weighing in on photo shoots, and helping promote the brand. This position reports directly to the editor in chief and is based in New York. Candidates must have at least 8 years of relevant professional editorial experience at a major magazine brand. Responsibilities include:
• Top-edit the magazine
• Shepherd issue through to completion
• Work on layouts with art
• Help develop the cover (writing lines with editors and working on layout with design director)
• Pre-screen lineups with top editors
• Run creative meetings for sections with art team and editors
• Concept ideas for book and brand expansions
• Work with ad team on requests/concept editorial packages to sell
• Make occasional ad calls
• Support the EIC in any way necessary
• Develop and maintain partnerships for the brand
