Hearst Magazines is looking for an enterprising deputy editor to join the online team at Esquire. This person will be responsible for managing Esquire.com's team, content, and content distribution on a day-to-day basis. Razor-sharp editing skills as well as experience managing a talented and extremely fast-moving team are a must.
This role reports to the Editor in Chief of Esquire and is based in New York.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a team of writers, editors, and designers
• Own Esquire.com's edit lineup 24/7/365 and ensure it has a balanced mix of news, features, politics, and lifestyle content
• Work in concert with the Editor in Chief to think up wide-ranging initiatives and editorial strategy
• Brainstorm with staff to create compelling, thoughtful stories and videos
• Top edit all stories, with a particular eye towards longform content
• Work with designers on packaging and story design for digital pagination
• Conceive of big, online conversation–generating content packages throughout the edit calendar
• Recruit new, impactful voices for the site
• Follow news online from an array of sources; share news as it happens with relevant editors
Requirements:
• At least 8 years' writing and editing experience in digital media
• Strong relationships with top-shelf writers
• Comfortable and confident backing up editorial decisions with both data and judgment
• A passion for digital news, politics, online trends, and content strategy
• Strong visual and photo research skills
• Well-versed in Omniture, Chartbeat, and other analytic tools
• Weekend and evening work will be required as part of the publishing cycle
• Bachelor's Degree
