Your impact:
Men's Health is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented deputy art director with at least 5 years of professional, post-grad cross-platform experience in editorial design at a major magazine to join its editorial art department. This position reports to the creative director, and will work closely with the creative director to evolve the look of the FOB, as well as design feature stories and packages. The ideal candidate has a love of typography, pays close attention to detail, is a conceptual thinker and an excellent communicator, and can manage multiple projects. Candidate must be fun, talented, and energetic. Must have experience in assigning illustration, creating info-graphics, and art-directing photo shoots. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and a degree in graphic design are a must; interest and knowledge in fitness and health topics is a plus. This position will work on both print and digital, with a concentration on print. What you'll do:
• Design and lay out front of book and feature stories
• Work closely with the creative director to maintain and evolve the look of the magazine
• Manage art department and oversee design and evolution of FOB and overall look of issues
• Assist with meetings, creating presentations, and project management
• Work closely with managing editor to keep day-to-day production of issue on track
• Be responsible for reviewing proofs and making appropriate changes
• Design special sections and brand extension projects
• Assign illustrations
• Create briefs for photographers to set expectations for photo shoots to ensure visual storytelling will complement the written word
• Work with prop stylists to best visualize art plan
• Mark up color
Who you are:
• 4 to 5 years of professional, post-grad cross-platform experience in the art department of a major consumer magazine
• Degree in graphic design
• Strong design abilities and typographic skills
• Sharp eye for color and ability to communicate corrections to imaging
• Prepress and production experience
• Photo shoot experience
• Expert InDesign capabilities (K4 and Woodwing required); Photoshop, Illustrator
