Hearst Magazines' Central Commerce Team is looking for a commerce editor to pitch, write, and edit commerce content for our Lifestyle portfolio, including Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, House Beautiful, Country Living, Prevention, and more.
The ideal person for this role is obsessed with finding newsworthy deals, keeps their finger on the pulse of shopping trends and pop culture, has a discerning point of view with an eye for detail, and values a service-driven approach. We're looking for a writer with some editing experience who's open to covering different categories: Home is the priority, and general interest in tech, beauty, travel, and more is also required, since this role supports a broad vertical. You should be open to conducting independent product testing, including taking original photography or recording videos.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to create various types of commerce content, including: first-person reviews, sales and deals roundups, commerce news, gift guides, and trend reports for our various distribution channels. You will work with a wide variety of brands and strategic affiliate partners like Amazon. You should be comfortable using data and reporting tools to inform editorial ideas.
This position will report to the Senior Commerce Editor, Lifestyle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
• Write, update, or edit 1-3 shopping-focused pieces of content daily that maintain each title's individual taste levels and sensibilities
• Conduct unbiased product testing and research that adheres to editorial standards
• Stay on top of the latest deals and work with our preferred partners to plan for sale events and upcoming launches
• Track performance of content to inform and execute on new areas of opportunity to increase affiliate revenue
• Work closely with Hearst's internal teams (SEO, Product, etc.) to follow best practices in pursuit of collective revenue goals
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
• 3 years professional experience, preferably at a digital media outlet or editorial team
• Sharp writing and self-editing skills and a talent for turning around clean, accurate copy
• Strong angling and packaging skills with an understanding of SEO and social platforms
• Familiarity with analytics and translating insights into content (reporting tools used in this role: Looker, Google Analytics/Trends, Skimlinks)
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
• Comfortable working independently
• Availability to work major shopping holidays, like Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day
• Pluses:
• Background in affiliate commerce
• Top-editing experience
• Product testing experience
