Popular Mechanics-part of Hearst's Enthusiast Group-is looking for an energetic, insatiably curious, mechanically minded editor who is obsessed with cars, trucks, and everything else on four wheels. You should be the friend everyone turns to for auto advice and serve as the go-to for ingenious tips and tricks for demystifying cars and how to repair them.
You'll work as part of our Velocity content team, where we use audience-driven metrics and our deep enthusiast knowledge to write stories that delight, inspire, and surprise our readers everyday. Day to day, this person will dig into the finer details of how a car works, report new trends in tech like self-driving and electric cars, and share tips on how to troubleshoot a mechanical conundrum. Goals will be stretched across traffic (including social and search) as well as daily story output.
The Autos Editor will be based in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities:
• Under direction of the Director of Content Operations and the Popular Mechanics deputy editor, strategize, plan, and publish auto news, reviews, roundups, search-optimized articles, and how-to guides that meet reader needs and the Enthusiast Group's editorial standards
• Develop a comprehensive game plan for Popular Mechanics auto coverage, using audience data and metrics to develop themes, areas of interest, and U.S. and international auto show coverage
• Produce 2-3 stories daily while simultaneously creating longer works for our site, magazine, social feeds, video team, and other channels
• Hit every deadline. Crush every metric
Requirements:
• At least 3 years of professional experience in editing and writing about auto news and car mechanics. Daily digital publishing and hands-on mechanical experience is a plus
• Metric-driven personality and ability to work on multiple projects at once with several different teams
• Deep familiarity with auto news and car trends, and in-touch with the real-world needs of car owners everywhere
• Experience with and understanding of affiliate revenue streams and using audience data to inform coverage strategies
• Bachelor's degree
Note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in .pdf format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work
