The Opportunity
Hearst Magazines seeks a proven ad sales leader, manager, and motivat or who will oversee the advertising sales effo rts for The Fashion Group media brands (Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Marie Claire). T he Associate P ublisher / CRO will be resp o nsible for ad sales strategy and revenue generation and will take a leadership r ole in partnership with the SVP, Publishing Director of The Fashion Group f or dr iving ad revenue across print and digital platforms. The Ass ociate P ublisher /CRO will also be r esponsible f or managing and devel o ping a sales staff, as well as m o nit oring and reaching assigned sales g oals.
Ideal candidate must have dem o nstrated an exce pti o nal record of generating advertising sales, building client/agency relati o nshi ps with a c ollab orative leadership style and entrepreneurial spirit c ombined with an expertise in cr oss platfo rm selling and strategy.
He/she will lead the ad sales strategy and collab orate with the Publishing Director to ensure marketing programs and strategic plans that translate into sales. Expectati o ns are that this sales leader will strive to exceed revenue targets thr o ugh creative c o nsultative selling and build positive relatio n s hips with key stakeh olders (i.e. edi t orial, marketin g, business department, produ ctio n ).
Key Responsibilities
• Acco untable for attaining established ad revenue goals/ qu otas th r o ugh inn ovative, creative, strategic and co nsultative selling.
• Manage a sales team to prom o te maximum sales c o verage and activit y.
• Work with staff to develop and execute in dividual sales acti on plans.
• Work with CRO and marketing to ensure marketing pr o grams and strategy drive advertising and revenue o b ject ives.
• Work with marketing team to create effective client s olutio ns and manage deal devel o p ment
• Mo nit or all sales activity through to cl ose and regular ly provide accura te revenue projectio n s/ sales f orecasts including ne g otiating rates and advertiser/vend or c o ntracts.
• Build stro ng relatio nshi ps with se n i or agency and clie nt co n tacts n atio nwide thr o ugh co nsistent co ntact and en tertaining.
• Work with producti o n/ad services and o versee b o ok layo u t/p ositionin g, and edi t orial issu es.
• Establish w orkfl ow and processes for advertising f orecasting, bu dgeting and goal setting.
• Form a s olid and positive w orking relatio nship with e d itorial staff and devel op relatio nshi ps with other Hearst titles to enco urage collab orative selling.
• Work cl osely and meet reg ularly with the Publishing Director to keep ma nagement abreast of overall business as well as pers o nnel issues.
Req uirements/Skills/Exp e rien ce
• Must h ave advertising media sales experience including experien ce in a leadersh ip role.
• Must h ave experience hiri ng and managing a sales team and must h ave a proven record as a strategic and effective leader/manager
• Ideal candidate will have demonstrated record and contacts in the fashion, beauty, and/or luxury advertising categories.
• Su perior sales skills, with results - oriented track rec o rd and proven ability to meet and exceed sales goals
• Demo n strated success crafting interactive brand strategies resulting in robust ad sales
• Proven rec ord translating marketing and prom oti o n al
o bjectives into results f or advertisers
• Track rec ord of stru cturing and managing complex neg otiati o ns to successful clo s ure
• A self-starter who instincti vely takes char ge, h as a p ositive team player approach and who is comfo rtable and can thri ve in a start-up fast-paced environment with gr ace und er pressure.
• High profile and well- c o nnected in ind ustry with stro ng relatio nshi ps with to p-tier ad agencies, national advertising acco u nts, and marketing executives at the client level
• Analytical /strategic thin ker, creative problem so lver, r oll -up sleeves res o urceful, able to effect in n ovati on and creativity
• Must be c o nversant in new techn ology (digital, s ocial and mo bile)
• Su perior interperso nal and communication skills, b oth written and verbal
• Excellent organizational skills and dem o nstrated ability to multi-task
• Ability to maintain a regular travel schedule
