Why Hearst Magazines?
Hearst Magazines is one of the largest publishers in the world, with more than 25 brands, including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Harper's BAZAAR, Popular Mechanics, and Oprah Daily. We reach more than 150 million people every month in the United States alone.
But we're more than just our magazines. We engage our audience across all mediums and channels-print, digital, video, and social-with sophisticated content creation, distribution, and data capabilities. We create, package, and sell products with cutting-edge technology and proprietary platforms. Together, we are reinventing publishing for the 21st century.
Your impact:
Biography.com seeks a creative, energetic Associate News Editor. Working with the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Editor of Biographical Content, the News Editor helps plan, originate, create, edit, and update short-form, news-driven biographical content for Biography.com and other brands, as needed, in the Enthusiast and Consumer Group. The Associate News Editor can quickly craft compelling, concise, and factually impeccable bulletins that capture the cultural and historical zeitgeist of the moment and that convey the excitement of being in the know about the most important people in current culture and historical figures with lasting impacts. The ideal editor can within minutes find the heart of the day's news and relate that to our existing biographical content, and tune and adapt those bulletins to aid distribution across all our platforms (such as on site, social, and newsletter).
Please note: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with a cover letter, salary requirements, and a link to a portfolio of work.
This role is located in Easton, PA
What you'll do:
• Pitch, write, edit, and update short-form biographical news bulletins that draw on our existing content and generate large-scale audience attraction, primarily for Biography.com and all of its platforms
• Use site analytics and SEO to constantly hone story angles, breadth, and process to reach team goals
• Work with the Deputy Editor of Biographical Content and fellow editorial team to hit all relevant metrics and goals
Who you are:
• An excellent writer with knowledge of what makes a good story
• Relish working collaboratively with our experts and colleagues in data, visual, video, affiliate, and audience attraction teams
• Enjoy creating multiple pieces of content daily, in a high-cadence environment and a get-it-out-first deadline approach
• Open to experimenting with content types to create appropriate content for a digital audience
• Responsive to fast-changing metrics and goals
• Obsessed with notable personalities, celebrities, historical figures, cultural icons - and explaining the importance of those people in clear, compelling, and simple yet detailed ways
• Comfortable producing content with digital-friendly language and that is optimized for SEO
• Have at least 1 year of publishing experience, preferably in digital, newsletter, or social brands
