Full Time Job
Good Housekeeping is looking for an art director with exceptional design and organizational skills. S/he must be able to produce pages utilizing strong sophisticated design and typography with the ability to translate editorial concepts that reflect the Good Housekeeping brand. S/he must have experience in designing on digital platforms as well as for print, with a strong background in working with and directing photographers. Must be an excellent designer and conceptual thinker with strong attention to detail, and a team player with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Should excel at working both independently and in a collaborative team environment. The art director will also provide design guidance to members of the team when needed. This position will report directly to the creative director. NOTE: For consideration, resumes must be submitted in PDF format with salary requirements and a link to a portfolio of work.
Responsibilities:
• Conceptualize and design print editorial layouts, including complex editorial packages that rely heavily on art treatment
• Design visually interesting features for GH.com
• Collaborate with editorial team on art for sections and brainstorm ideas and concepts
• Oversee design and production of special projects and supplements
• Assist in the creation of propping/styling notes for photo shoots
• Support the creative director
• Assist in production
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in art or graphic design
• 5 years' editorial design experience at a consumer magazine
• Ability to understand and execute the Good Housekeeping aesthetic
• Ability to work under pressure and rise to creative challenges under tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative nature
• Experience with InDesign, Woodwing, Photoshop, After Effects, and Illustrator desired
