Join us at Hearst Magazines and help define the future of storytelling in digital media! We are looking for an experienced Art Director to help refine and improve the visual content experience across our portfolio of consumer publications (including brands such as ELLE, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Men's Health, Women's Health, House Beautiful, Runner's World, and more).
Your Impact
As an Art Director, you will partner with the product design team as well as creatives at our brands to help translate and elevate brand identity using the features of our proprietary digital publishing platform. You will work closely with editorial teams to understand their needs and help them design content that will resonate with digital audiences. You will also get to work directly with technical teams to develop and iterate storytelling features and tools that will unlock the creativity of our editorial org.
What you will do
• You will act as liaison between editorial teams working in Hearst's digital publishing platform and product design teams; help to define improvements and evangelize best practices
• You will ensure excellence in editorial design across publications
• You will get to work with design leaders at brand teams to help with website redesigns and updates
• You will take part in design thinking and user research methodologies to understand and innovate on content experiences
• You will source and facilitate art directors, motion designers, and visual designers for interactive features and packages
• You will help build respectful and productive cross-team relationships with designers, content creators, product designers and technical teams
• You will take part in design leadership team initiatives: design advocacy, stakeholder outreach and education, design operations strategy, team growth and training
Who you are
• You have 5 years' experience in digital product design or related fields
• You have a BA, MA, MFA, MDes or certificate in graphic design, digital product design, user experience, or equivalent professional experience
• You have an expert eye for visual design and typography
• You have proven leadership experience that demonstrates the success of your team and product
• You have experience strategizing and building robust design systems in front-end environments
• Experience in the role of art director for publications, agencies or media brands
• As an Art Director, you prefer teamwork and collaborative design practices
• You have some hands-on experience prototyping or developing websites or apps
• You flourish in fast-paced environments
You have produced award-winning creative
Outside of work, you are an avid reader and fan of digital content
• You consistently advocate for content creators and content consumers
