Advertising Director, Marie Claire
The Opportunity
Marie Claire seeks a proven print and digital ad sales leader, manager, and motivator who will oversee the advertising sales efforts. The Ad Director will be responsible for meeting print and digital ad sales goals and will work with the Publisher to drive cross media ad revenue. The Advertising Director will also be responsible for managing and developing a sales staff, as well as monitoring and reaching assigned print and digital sales goals.
Ideal candidate must have an exceptional record of generating both digital and integrated advertising sales, buildin g client/ agency relationships with a collaborative leadership style and entrepreneurial spirit combined with demonstrated digital expertise and cross platform selling and strategy. As Hearst moves increasingly into large-sca l e content program s, extensive experience in enterprises selling is critical, as is deep knowledge of how the social web works today. The candidate should be comfortable with new advertising models (social engagement and acceleration, branded content solutions, selling through syndicated & distributed content, etc .).
He/she will lead the integrated ad sales team and collaborate with the Publisher to ensure marketing programs and strategic plans translate into sales . Expectations are that this sales leader will strive to exceed revenue targets through creative consultative selling and build positive relationships both internally with all Hearst depts. as well as externally with clients/ agencies.
Key Responsibilities
• Accountable for attaining established print and digital ad revenu e goals/quotas through innovative , creative, s trategi c and consu l tative selling.
• Manage an integrated sales team to promote maximum sales coverage and activity.
• Work with staff to develop and execute individual sales action plans.
• Help sales team understand and mana ge a ll phases of the digital selling cycle through to close and regularly report accurate revenue proje ct ions.
• Work with the Publisher and marketing to ensure marketing programs and strategy dr ive print and digita l advertisin g revenue objectives.
• Work with marketing team to create effective client solutions and manage deal development
• Work with the General Man age r to monitor all sales activity through to close and regularly provided accurate revenue projections/sales forecasts.
• Build strong relationships with senior agency and client contacts nationwide throu g h cons i s tent contact and en ter t ai ning .
• Work with General Mana ger to estab li s h workflow and processes for advertising forecasting, budgeting and goal se ttin g .
• Form a so lid and positive working re l ationship with e ditorial s ta ff and d eve lop r e lati o n sh ip s with other Hear st titles to encourage collaborative se lling .
• Work closely and me et r eg ul a rly with the Publisher to keep manag emen t abreast of overall bu siness as well as per sonne l i ss ues.
Requirements
/Skills/Experience
• Must have 5 years print and digital advertising media sa les experience including ex peri e nce in a leadership role.
• Experience hiring and managing a sa les team and must have a proven record as a strategic and effective leader / manager
• Superior sales sk ills , with r esults - oriented tra ck record and proven ability to meet and exceed sa le s goals
• Demonstrated success crafting interactive brand stra t egies resulting in robust ad sales
• Proven record translating marketing and promotional objectives into res ults for advertisers
• Track record of st ru ct uring and managing complex negotiations to successful clos ure
• Be expe rt in digital content marketing includin g emerging trends in the space a nd must have account management proficiency from RFP to actualization
• A se lf -sta rter w ho instinctively takes charge, ha s a positive team player approach and who is comfortable and can thrive in a start-up fast - paced environment with g ra ce under pre ss ure.
• Hi gh profile and well - con ne cted in industry with strong relationships with top-tier ad agencies, national advertising ac c oun t s , an d marketing exec utiv es at the client level
• Analytical/strategic thinker, c r eat ive problem solver, roll-up s leeve s resourceful, able to e ffect innovation and creativity
• Must be conversant in new technology (digital, social and mobile)
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task
• Ability to maintain a regular travel schedule
