HMI is the unit of Hearst Magazines which manages all its international assets & properties (everything outside the US). The business has activities in more than 60 countries through a mix of wholly owned businesses, joint ventures and Licenses. The group works with a wide range of partners from the largest corporations to the smallest entrepreneurs. This position supports HMI financial management in carrying out their overall responsibility for delivering accurate, consistent & timely US GAAP financial data and management reporting data to the within the Hearst Magazines Group.
Responsibilities:
• Accounting, reporting and consolidation of the HMI operations under US GAAP and management accounting
• Translation and review of local currency financial statements
• Monthly Preparation of consolidated financial statements in US Dollar
• Monthly Preparation and submission of various supplemental schedules to Corporate
• Coordination and submission of the monthly & quarterly financial variance analysis to Corporate
• Monthly closing journal entries
• General ledger reconciliations
• Review and balancing of all HMI inter-company transactions and schedules
• Assist the Controller/s to ensure that all monthly close controls are being followed and are in compliance.
• Liaise with both internal and external audit on various requests.
• Work closely with country finance teams on various financial matters and accounting issues.
• Preparation of monthly forecast reports.
• Assist in Budget and five year plan processes as needed.
• Liaise with Tax Department on various requests throughout the year.
• Assist in the coordination and preparation of the year-end packages.
• Preparation of necessary documents for the annual IPH Coop audit and coordinate work Dutch team.
• Special projects as requested
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in accounting required. MBA and or CPA preferred
• 6 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience
• Working knowledge of Oracle Products or experienced with other financial reporting tools.
• Bilingual a plus
Skills:
• Knowledge of consolidation process and elimination entries
• Highly skilled in dealing with financial data
• Excellent communication skills and able to communicate across all levels of the organization
• Must be self-motivated and a team player
• Well organized and able to prioritize
• Advanced skills in Excel and Word
• Ability to work nonstandard work hours given the time zone differences of working with international partners
