The Job

CNN Digital seeks an Associate Director of Photography to join the CNN Visuals team.

The Associate Director of Photography is a manager position that will assist in overseeing the entire photo team across multiple bureaus from Atlanta, New York, Washington, London and Hong Kong. They will be coordinating day-to-day assignments with the aim of informing and engaging the audience of CNN Digital through the most captivating photography. Working with the Director of Photography, they will direct, plan, and conceptualize pin-pointed photo-driven coverage on breaking news, feature projects, and special long-term assignments. This position will also evangelize the best practices of photography for the entire CNN Digital team.

The Daily
• Responsible for the day-to-day assignments, coordinating coverage plans with various editorial partners within CNN Digital.
• Collaborate with producers, writers, editors across Digital to cover breaking and feature stories with an eye toward connecting with the audience through the best storytelling imagery.
• Work with CNN TV partners to align newsgathering efforts in the field for use across platforms.
• Help train the entire CNN organization and establish editorial standards and best practices for visuals.
• Work closely with the Director of Photography for all editorial priorities aligning to the department's mission statement and vision.
• Oversee the department's hiring and training of freelancers, photo interns, and editors and work with the team on weekly schedules. Help the Director of Photography manage the team by providing consistent feedback to support professional growth.
• Produce, edit galleries and photo interactives and shepherd a variety of projects from conception to publication.

The Essentials
• The ideal candidate must have at least 8-10 years direct photo editing, journalism and management experience with an established news organization.
• Must have a proven track record of working on a variety of major news stories. Examples: Elections, Covid-19.
• Strong leadership and communication skills are a requirement. The candidate must be able to multi-task and excel in teamwork and team-building skills.
• The candidate should possess deeply entrenched long-held beliefs of the highest standards of photojournalism practices and understand journalism industry trends.
• Must be proficient in Photoshop, PhotoMechanic and other photo editing and newsroom tools.
• Experience working with video, animation and/or interactives is a plus.
• Applicants must provide a link to a portfolio or examples of their work as a photo editor and/or their own photography work.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles that will be performed in New York City. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $91,000.00 - $169,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
