Lighting Equipment Rental Manager
REPORTS TO:
Equipment Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
GUM Studios is searching for a Lighting & Grip Equipment Rental Manager to join our team. We are looking for a detail-oriented person who is an adept communicator with strong client relation skills and the ability to wear many hats in a dynamic film and photo studio setting.
Rental Managers are an important part of the GUM Studios team. They are responsible for tracking and maintaining equipment that is both subrented and house owned. They will be on hand to answer client questions & changes to ongoing or upcoming orders and will be responsible for facilitating solutions.
All rental Managers will work closely with the Senior Rental Manager to ensure that information is passed seamlessly between the various crew shifts. Quick problem solving is key when dealing with after hours vendors and an extensive knowledge of film equipment and how it works is necessary for making informed decisions when swapping, repairing, or packing orders.
GUM Studios is a fast paced, client-facing environment where professionalism, courtesy and attention to detail are required at all times. Knowledge of Film EQ vendors, familiarity with rental workflows and proficiency in both photo and video lighting and grip is ideal.
Previous experience in Film EQ Rental houses or Studio EQ Departments is not required but strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of Briese, Fisher dollies, Ratpac and various brands' LED products are beneficial but not a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reports to the Equipment Director for daily tasks, coordinating with the Rental Manager and Warehouse Manager as needed.
• Provides accurate and timely estimates and negotiates to meet budgets & client needs.
• Creates new client accounts, confirms insurance and tax status, and confirms billing requirements.
• Oversees email communication with clients during regular hours & monitors during off-hours to facilitate changes to orders. - - - -
• Communicates ongoing changes to orders to warehouse staff.
• Problem solves any issues with equipment and anticipating client needs from a technical standpoint.
• Sources sub-rental EQ and suggesting with clients alternate gear based on budget & availability.
• Maintains relations with vendors: Sources best rates, confirms orders are correct & reports M&D
• Dispatches & tracks outside messengers & coordinates GUM's in-house transpo between stages.
• Assists warehouse staff in order fulfillment & returns, counting inventory, organizing, and transporting of equipment between the EQ dept hub and the various stages.
• Updates and expands Gum's equipment inventory via our rental software.
• Directs workflow between day shift and night crew changeover to streamline order fulfillment.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to lift 50-lbs unassisted.
• Hands-on / on-set experience with photography and grip and electric gear strongly preferred.
• Experience with any rental / inventory tracking platforms strongly preferred.
• Must be able to multitask and focus on the needs of different active jobs between multiple stages.
• Able to work-on-one with clients and crew to troubleshoot orders and suggest product alternatives.
• Must be able to lead a team of employees in completing daily tasks and training new employees. Previous management experience is a plus.
• Able to communicate clearly & effectively any problems & solutions to the Equipment Director / Sr Managers.
• Must be able to work with flexible hours and days of the week. We are looking for someone to mainly work daytime / weekday shifts but the stage hours are client-driven and nights, weekends, and occasional overtime are required
This is a dynamic environment; the ideal candidate is detail-oriented, have a knowledge of all film equipment including all light, grip and photo equipment and is always on time.
COMPENSATION:
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $23-$28 per hour depending on experience
Full-time salaried positions are eligible for our benefits program, which includes subsidized medical insurance, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), vacation time, etc., and other benefits which can be described in more detail during the onboarding process.
This position is considered Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Under Federal Law, non-exempt employees working more than 40 hours in a workweek, receive overtime paid at 1.5 times the employee's regular rate of pay.
