Position Title: SVP, Business & Legal Affairs
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Century City)
Reporting To: President, Business & Legal Affairs
Summary
The Senior Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs will be responsible for the negotiation and drafting of deals for the development, production and acquisition of feature films produced and acquired by Global Road Entertainment. The ideal candidate must be able to function independently and to handle a high volume of deals, matters and agreements to support Global Road’s growing feature film businesses.
Responsibilities
• Negotiate and draft a variety of production development deals and all above-the-line talent agreements, rights agreements, co-finance, distribution and negative pickup agreements for feature films
• Draft, review, negotiate other agreements relating to Global Road Film production, development, co-finance and acquisitions
• Successful presentation and preservation of rights acquired or commissioned from third parties and above-the-line talent
• Analyze contracts in response to business and client group questions, as well as provide necessary contractual/research information to other department members and Global Road executives (to assist in business development, litigation risk assessment, etc.)
• Oversee outside production counsel services for feature films produced by Global Road in response to all legal questions, including clearances
• Other projects at the direction of the President, Business & Legal Affairs
Requirements
• JD degree and active member of CA bar
• Outstanding academic credentials (excellent academic record at top tier law school) required
• Requires minimum of 5-7 years in business affairs or a combined business & legal affairs department at a major motion picture studio or production company, or talent agency
• Extensive features business & legal affairs experience required.
• Working familiarity with major above-the-line guild agreements
• Outstanding analytic, communication, organizational, negotiation and legal drafting skills
• Sound business judgment and ability to manage multiple matters and conflicting client needs
• Ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly and communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
• Deep knowledge of entertainment industry distribution and acquisition
• Assertive, detail-oriented, and able to accommodate tight deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment, flexibility or long hours if and when necessary
