Get to Know Africa Corporation is seeking a skilled and reliable Camera Operator / Videographer to join our growing media production team. This position will support our coverage of news, events, and stories related to Africa and the African diaspora within the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region. The ideal candidate is a creative visual storyteller who can capture dynamic footage in the field and studio, and work collaboratively with reporters, producers, and editors to deliver high-quality video content for broadcast and digital platforms.
You will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining cameras, lighting, and audio equipment to ensure professional, visually compelling coverage that reflects the voice and mission of Get to Know Africa Corporation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate professional video cameras and related equipment for field and studio shoots.
• Capture compelling footage of interviews, events, and live productions.
• Collaborate with reporters, producers, and editors to achieve desired visual storytelling goals.
• Set up and manage lighting, sound, and camera configurations in various shooting environments.
• Ensure all footage meets technical and aesthetic quality standards for broadcast and online distribution.
• Maintain and organize camera gear, batteries, lenses, and accessories.
• Assist with occasional live-streaming and multi-camera productions.
• Follow safety and ethical standards during field assignments.
Qualifications:
• Camera and equipment will be provided.
• Some experience as a camera operator, videographer, or cinematographer in news, broadcast, or documentary production.
• Strong understanding of camera systems, lenses, lighting, and audio setup.
• Proficiency with professional cameras (e.g., Sony, Canon, Blackmagic, or similar).
• Knowledge of video formats, frame rates, and file management.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Familiarity with African or diaspora communities is a plus.
• Availability for occasional evening or weekend shoots.
