We are expanding our Business & Legal Affairs team at Genius Brands International and are looking for an Associate Counsel of Business & Legal Affairs to support our growing company. Reporting to the EVP of Business & Legal Affairs and General Counsel, the ideal candidate will have a background in negotiating and drafting agreements related to music publishing rights, advertising and marketing, consumer products licensing, new media, and/or general commercial transactions.
Responsibilities include:
• Analyze, review, and interpret contracts; provide thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues;
• Structure, negotiate and draft scripted development and production agreements, including license agreements, executive producer agreements, writer agreements, director agreements, rights agreements and work-for-hire agreements;
• Consult with business and legal affairs colleagues on issues related to music publishing, advertising and marketing, social media, and digital distribution;
• Assist production legal in interfacing with a broad range of in-house personnel (e.g., creative, production, distribution, consumer products, etc.);
• Assist the EVP in establishing policies, procedures, and parameters in connection with various business practices; and
• Advise on any Business Affairs and Legal-related matters (including guild/union issues, integrations, consumer products).
Required Qualifications:
• Juris Doctorate (JD) and current membership with a State Bar (preferably California or New York); and
• 2+ years prior experience at an entertainment law firm and/or media entertainment company with experience in one or more of the following: music publishing, advertising and marketing, scripted television, consumer products, and/or new media.
• The position is ''in-person'' in Beverly Hills, California
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of negotiating and documenting transactions related to scripted entertainment;
• Cooperative, positive, team-oriented approach, and ability to independently manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment;
• Previously established relationships with key agencies, managers, and attorneys in the entertainment community; and
• Working knowledge of guild and union issues and various entertainment industry customs and practices.
