With the highly successful U.S. television group (Narcos and Hannibal) and burgeoning U.S. film, animation, and distribution groups, it is an exciting time to join the team as Gaumont continues to grow into a dynamic global brand.
We are looking for a Director, Finance to support our finance team and work cross-functionally with all other departments. This position will be based in our West Hollywood office and will report to the CFO.
The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, able to process many simultaneous tasks with accuracy, have strong communication skills, be capable of learning, following and managing multiple different procedures, and take the initiative to drive process improvements.
Responsibilities:
• Creation and tracking of the corporate overhead budget, including quarterly reforecasting and budget-to-actuals variance analysis.
• Managing and tracking all cash / treasury activities for the company, including:
o On the corporate side, managing corporate overhead cashflow, monthly reforecasting and reporting, and working closely with all cross-functional business partners to determine cash needs.
o On the development side, managing development cashflow, monthly reforecasting and reporting, and working closely with business affairs and creative affairs departments to make sure all closed deals are being tracked.
o On the production side, tracking and maintaining production funding schedules, analyzing production trial balances, cost reports, budgets and cashflows, and working closely with production teams to determine cash needs.
• Overseeing all bank financing activities, including managing a 9-figure corporate credit facility and closing single-picture bank loans to fund film / television projects, working closely with banks, bond companies, networks and other stakeholders.
• Greenlight deal analysis, valuation waterfalls and financial modeling for new projects, including analyzing profitability and forecasting financing costs, back-end profit-participation costs, and residuals costs.
• Calculating and managing amortization schedules for production costs, back-end profit-participation costs, and residuals costs for film / television projects.
• Reviewing all film / television back-end profit participation statements to 3rd-party producers and all film / television residuals cost calculations to related players.
• Managing all foreign exchange transactions, including trading in forward currency hedges for film / television productions that require foreign currencies.
• Working with entire finance team on quarterly closes and reporting package to French parent company.
• Assisting finance teams with external audits from guilds, networks, corporate auditors, etc.
• Opening bank accounts and managing online banking platforms.
• Forming new entities in different states.
Skills / Qualities We're Looking For:
• Highly proficient in Excel, experience with Quickbooks Online a plus.
• Must be familiar with variety of deal structures such as licensing deals, cost-plus models, co-productions, acquisitions, etc.
• Must be legal-savvy and comfortable reading contracts / legal documents (i.e. license agreements, development deals, writer contracts, etc.).
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Motivation and enthusiasm to own major financing processes and work autonomously.
• Ability to process a large volume of transactions and scrutinize large data sets with a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to learn quickly, self-review, check your work, develop systems to catch errors, learn from mistakes, and most importantly, never make the same mistake twice!
• Forward thinker who can conceptualize the need for and effectively implement process improvements.
• Curious, passionate, and enthusiastic about entertainment finance.
• Willingness to challenge the status quo, to advocate for Gaumont culture, and to always act in Gaumont's best interest.
Education / Experience:
• Bachelor's degree required, MBA / CPA a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of production / entertainment finance experience.
• Accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP / IFRS preferred.
• French speaker a plus.
