Funny Or Die, Inc, is looking for an exceptional attorney to join the company as Attorney, Legal & Business Affairs where you'll work with the Programming, Brand Partnership and Sales teams and provide legal support relating to the development, production and exploitation of advertising, branded and other sponsored content.
Focus on production of custom-produced advertisements and co-promotional materials, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating talent agreements, production services agreements and other related agreements
Review advertising materials for regulatory compliance, guild considerations and intellectual property matters
Counsel production and other executives regarding legal issues relating to their business
Evaluate and recalibrate best practices as new laws, regulations, case law and technology develop
Manage third-party clearances and licensing (e.g., music, stock images, software, etc.) necessary for production
Track contract terms and renewal deadlines, including important dates and records for all third-party licenses
Consult on day-to-day questions surrounding content usage rights, insurance, regulations, sweepstakes, etc.
In addition, the individual will have opportunities to work on all of the company's film, television, and digital businesses such as scripted television, shiny floor variety/talk show, unscripted/reality shows and feature-length films
Law degree and member of the CA state bar in good standing
Strong writing and drafting skills
Strong negotiation, presentation and communication skills
Ability to analyze risk and exercise sound judgment in order to provide practical, timely legal advice
Experience working directly with clients, production vendors and/or talent reps in contract negotiations
Extreme attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across different teams/departments
Ability to prepare and review all parts of advertising or branded entertainment contracts, especially business terms vs. legal terms within: production, editorial, music, standardized union agreements, releases, usage rights
Strong understanding of copyright and trademark
0 - 2 years' experience
High level understanding of guild and union agreements (SAG-AFTRA) and production implications of working with guild/union members on branded executions
Outstanding academic credentials (high class ranking at law school preferred)
Experience at top law firm or in-house legal department with advertising, marketing or entertainment practice
High level understanding of FTC obligations, guidelines and the associated implications concerning influencer content
