Faculty Position, Music Listening and Identification
Full Sail University is now accepting applications for the Associate Course Director, Music Listening and Identification position in its Music Production Bachelor of Science Degree Program.
Associate Course Directors ensure excellence in teaching skills and classroom content. They support the Course Director's curriculum vision and direction, and assist with lecture and administrative responsibilities as assigned. Associate Course Directors ensure personal service to students. They also maintain continuing education as defined in the faculty development plan.
The Associate Course Director will lecture to students and assist students with queries and requests for additional information, both online and/or on campus, as required; assist in planning, designing, developing, and implementing course curriculum as defined by the Program Director and Course Director and maintain a professional demeanor within the public eye, including: student relations, public/student internet posts, community relations, public stage performances, and industry events. The successful candidate must have a collaborative leadership style to work effectively with the school administration, teachers, students, and the school's leadership team.
This position is full time, on campus, and requires a flexible schedule to include evenings to be available to students.
The most vital instruments in the music producer's possession are his or her ears. The Musical Listening and Identification Course introduces the lifelong practice of developing musical and aural discernment. Music recognition begins with identifying musical intervals and progresses to the transcription of simple melodies, chords, and bass lines. Students learn rhythmic identification beginning with simple meter beat counting and progressing to distinguish simple grooves and basic phrasing. Basic song form ingredients are explored and differentiated.
Required Skills
Requirements: The ideal candidate must have a minimum of four years of related experience. A minimum of two years' experience teaching music theory at the college level is preferred. Extensive knowledge of pedagogical techniques employed for teaching music theory (especially utilizing electronic tools) is preferred. Working knowledge of musical recognition of intervals, cadences and notation. Music Listening and Identification is delivered online; knowledge of methods for online delivery of curriculum is preferred.
Education/Training: The ideal candidate will have a Masters Degree (preferred), or Bachelors Degree (minimum requirement) in Music Theory, Composition or related Musical focus. The candidate should have a passion for education and knowledge of online teaching concepts.
Skills Needed: Excellent oral and written communication skills, passion and patience to encourage learning, self-motivated team member and the ability to help develop curriculum. Proficiency in music technology software including Auralia, Garage Band, Logic Audio, Pro Tools, and Sibelius. Must have strong social media skills in addition to being up-to-date on the latest web technologies.
