FoxNext Art Director
Los Angeles, CA
FoxNext seeks an experienced, world-class videogame Art Director to join our game development team at a senior level. We need a proven leader who's capable of taking a seat at the table with other department heads and able to help visualize a game from the ground up. Merely bringing someone else's vision to life won't be adequate here. We're accustomed to running an art team as a spearhead to a project, not just a service to other departments. This is not a glorified lead artist role. We need a real art director who's experienced running a big staff and shepherding simultaneous projects.
Responsible for all visual aesthetics of our games including concept art, character design, models, environments, animations, UI, cinematics, and more.
Must have demonstrated past success as a manager of large teams.
Communicate verbally, visually, frequently and convincingly.
Heavily involved in every stage of a game's development.
Technically adept and up to speed on the latest software for visual development, rendering, etc.
Balance creative vision with production realities, requirements and parameters.
Able to manage and mentor project-level Art Directors and art department craft leads.
Imagine the initial vision for a project and communicate that vision to others in a compelling fashion. You need to tell the story for the game which exists only in your head in a way which excites and inspires your teammates and creative partners to make that vision a reality.
Manage the approval and sign off process for art assets.
Identify, engage and supervise art outsourcers.
Investigate new art technologies which can aid in our efforts to create the most beautiful games possible.
Actively participate in frequent art reviews, knowing which notes to act upon and which feedback to ignore. Justify your opinions and choices to high level peers. Know when to push back.
Work directly and collaboratively with a variety of other departments.
Formal art training preferred.
History of shipped titles required.
2D art skills a must.
3D art skills a plus.
Adjacent skills in audio, copywriting, film-making, etc. might prove useful.
