JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose of the job:
A Technical Director (TD) in Rendering provides critical support and troubleshoots issues in the rendering of shots and assets in the pipeline.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
• Promptly act on render requests based on pipeline status and multiple forms of electronic communication
• In addition to addressing errors in the render process, the Render TD will address shots and assets with long render times and perform optimization wedge tests in cooperation with other departments, particularly Lighting, Compositing and Stereo
• Quickly troubleshoot errors in render submissions on a variety of platforms including the company's proprietary renderer, Nuke and Maya. This includes extensive technical problem solving and coordinating with other departments accordingly.
• Identify and escalate problem issues that need to be addressed in other areas of the studio
• Actively participate in the design and development of tools to maintain and improve efficient and high quality throughput through the department. Ensure software development follows studio policies and guidelines.
• Attend and actively participate in regular meetings associated with assigned sequences. When requested, ensure that rendered frames meet specified quality control parameters.
• Reports to Rendering Supervisor
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience Required:
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
Skills
, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate
• Production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or game industry preferably experience in the Rendering pipeline
• Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines.
• Experience with Maya, Houdini or other 3rd Party Animation Systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and proficiency in Linux and Python (or similar object oriented language). Experience developing for web applications with a database backend preferred.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal supervision. Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups.
• A Technical Director in Rendering partners with numerous departments throughout the Production Pipeline. As such, flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, are required as a fundamental and necessary part of this job.
