Full Time Job
This position will assist the Creative Director in various design and administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
• Utilize appropriate graphic design programs and page layout expertise to assist the Creative Director by performing a multitude of design-related tasks for NG Adult Books. These may include, but are not limited to style-guide designs; creation of displays and multi-media presentations; creating and updating creative briefs and sell sheets; high-end file preparation, master file preparation for upcoming projects; creating dummy books for Marketing, etc.
• Assist the Art/Photo departments by acting as the design liaison to Production Editorial and Marketing.
• Work in tandem with Production Editorial to route and approve covers, style chapters, and full book interior layouts.
• Facilitate communication and file transfers between Art, Photo, and Marketing. Maintain library of latest, approved covers on the server until final printer versions are available to the Marketing Group.
• Coordinate all meetings for the Creative Director, and record and disseminate meeting outcomes to attendees. This includes checking the availability of Society's-wide staff members, external clients, and the NG Books Publishing staff members, following up on schedule changes, determining meeting locations, organizing wall-walks, and providing all necessary information to those involved.
• Help Art Directors prepare for digital versions of printed products by gathering assets, creating templates, and assisting in the overall scheduling.
• Assist the design teams in their daily work by completing file work, researching competitive products, and designing graphic elements.
• Act as liaison to Production Services group for Art/Photo departments.
• Point person for all InSite-related communication
• Download and upload release files, images, templates, notify in-house and freelance designers and photo editors of file transfers and availability, troubleshoot problems or missing items for vendors, etc.
• Assist the Creative Director in day to day tasks and miscellaneous design tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• 2 years print experience
• Experience in Digital a plus
• Must have excellent organizational, written and communication skills
• Ability to work with printer templates in a variety of different measurements (metric, picas, inches, decimal inches) and convert back and forth; ability to extrapolate word counts and apply them to page castoffs
• Strong portfolio showing design capability and design program depth, focused on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• Pre-press technology and 4-color printing knowledge required.
