This position reports to the Production & Operations Manager. The Lead Production Technician will operate systems, in the production control room, master control, studio, and audio booth for newscasts, promos, and special events. Ideal candidate must be able to operate studio cameras, audio board, news software, graphic systems and video switcher for newscasts and productions. Must be proficient in floor directing and stage management, with a strong understanding of lighting and lighting control systems. Additionally, during guest segments, will be responsible for positioning guests and making sure they are mic'd correctly. Able to handle unplanned changes, and communicate those to the studio talent efficiently while adjusting floor configurations and shot requests. Responsible for confirming all needed equipment is operational and ready for air. Must keep professional knowledge up to date with current broadcast technologies and determine how they might be utilized for broadcast and internet only production. Must have an understanding of master control automation technology, quality control of all media and segmentation of programming.
- Responsibilities and Duties:
• Lead the studio floor operations.
• Learn how to Direct and Technical Direct live and taped productions in a backup capacity.
• Mix audio for newscasts and productions.
• Train new hires on procedures and operations.
• Function as a master control operator in a backup capacity.
• Quality control and segment master control media for broadcast.
• Becoming versed in all aspects of live operations.
Associate's degree in television broadcasting (Production/Engineering) preferred. Minimum 2 years' production experience in live commercial television with heavy emphasis on news production and associated systems. Ideal candidate must have the ability to work under pressure and work in a cohesive team environment is a must. Must have clear verbal skills and a patient, positive demeanor. Regularly stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be willing to work mornings, nights, weekends, holidays and prepared for 'all hands all deck' in the event of breaking news coverage.
