Full Time Job
We are looking for a sharp, creative, thorough and hardworking Associate Producer to join The Story with Martha MacCallum. As an Associate Producer on The Story, you will be responsible for in-depth research, selecting/building elements, writing scripts, pitching stories and producing packages. You are a superb writer & excellent researcher who sees value in being patient, thorough & persistent. You must be well versed in politics, culture & current events - and curious about ideas and values that differ from your own. You should value disagreement and debate as opportunities to educate yourself and elevate your work. You will be responsible for every aspect of your daily segment, from inception to execution. Facts and accuracy are critical. You should feel confident writing questions, predicting the most likely answers, and providing a detailed plan (with facts) to follow up. At the same time, you should also be extremely effective in executing (and adding value to) ideas described by others. This is a rare opportunity - please come prepared to show us what would make your contributions uniquely valuable to our tightly-knit team of true professionals.
You will be offered the following shift: Weekdays (12:00 pm-8:00 pm)
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Pitch stories & strategies for your segment
• Conduct in-depth research; identify valuable information and cut through clutter
• Write guest intros, teases, and anchor questions/follow-ups
• Select elements such as sound, video clips, and graphics to help tell a story
• Monitor multiple sources for new developments on your segment and keep the team informed
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Bachelors degree in television, journalism, or a related field
• 1-3 years of prior television (or similar) experience (experience reporting in the field, in a control room, conducting pre-interviews, and/or writing/producing/editing news packages a plus!)
• Knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture
• Ability to work collaboratively with others under intense deadline pressure
• Ability to work independently and make smart decisions on your own
• Ability to understand and implement ideas described by others
• Willingness to listen, learn and grow from constructive criticism
