JOB DESCRIPTION
Fox News is looking for an organized, motivated, curious individual with strong logistical and editorial skills to join our assignment desk team in the Washington D.C Bureau. The Assignment Editor / PM Coordinator works with a team of people to coordinate daily news coverage, which includes adjusting reporters to cover breaking news and responding to cover a consistent flow of events at the Capitol, White House, Pentagon, State Department and other venues in DC. The Assignment Editor/PM Coordinator also prioritizes incoming editorial information and ensures it is clearly communicated to control rooms and other entities who need to be made aware. Your ability to aggressively seek out additional information and pitch stories will allow you to excel in this role.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as the point person for minute-by-minute editorial, guiding live shot producers and reporters in getting information to air
• Serve as the liaison between DC newsroom and NY control rooms to provide guidance and add context on stories coming out of the DC Bureau
• Monitor news, reach out to appropriate beat reporters and producers and ensure that breaking and updated information is entered into the urgent queue
• Work with the Nightside Manager to ensure material is properly sourced and reporters and live shot producers are following editorial guidelines
• Reach out to bureau management team to flag breaking news in the D.C. region, provide a plan of action and coverage for live broadcast
• Guide live shot producers on how they can update and move stories forward throughout the day
• Oversee tracking and logging of DC news events with an emphasis on guiding employees to flag and highlight news developments
• Monitor wires, social media and other broadcast networks for news developments
• Reach out to agencies, government departments and fox personnel to gather and confirm information
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in a local or national newsroom preferred
• Strong logistical and editorial skills with knowledge of national and international politics
• A natural curiosity for news
• Familiarity with the various D.C. government agencies
• Knowledge of network pool operations at the desk level with an emphasis on understanding the unilateral benefit
• A self-starter attitude with the ability to work both independently as well as on a team
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment, multitask, and prioritize on a daily basis, and especially in breaking news situations
• Willingness to work weekends, early mornings and late shifts as needed
NICE TO HAVES
• Knowledge of the DC area is a plus
• Familiarity with iNews, Outlook and ScheduAll a plus
