Part Time Unpaid Internship
Internship Start Date/Season: Beginning of January through end of May
Internship Duration: Semester (3-4 months)
Time/Days Required: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Noon-3:00 PM Pacific Time
Workplace Requirements: This position is remote but has the possibility of becoming hybrid
Do you love music? Do you read NOISEY, Pitchfork, Blabbermouth and other web 'zines and music publications? Do you prefer the DIY lifestyle? Would you rather work with unique indie, metal and punk bands in a casual home office setting than in a corporate environment? If so, we are looking for you!
Fly PR is based in Atwater Village in Los Angeles, applicants can be based anywhere as this job has potential to be mostly remote.
We are hiring an intern to learn about publicity, the music industry and running a small, independent business.
You will be helping with tour press, album releases, research, social media posting and more. Responsibilities include copious work via email and social media platforms (lots of help pitching!), as well as answering phones and handling various office duties that include putting together press lists for the bands we represent, pitching to media outlets, scheduling interviews for artists, as well as any other work project assignments given. We do our best to tailor the work to help you learn about the parts of the business you are most interested in.
Some experience in PR, indie music, or the music industry preferred but not required; however, you must have a love for and be passionate about music!
*NOTE: Internship will be compensated in college credit. The position has potential to transition to a paid publicity assistant and mentorship under the owner of the firm.*
ABOUT FLY PR:
Fly PR is an independently owned music publicity firm that has been in business since 1994. We are hired by record labels and artists to handle print media publicity for campaigns such as new album releases and/or upcoming tours. We predominantly work with bands that are rock, metal, punk and that are considered underground, fringe, outsider and avant-garde. But we also work with singer-songwriters, electronic artists and other styles. We handle press for clients like Smog Veil Records, About Productions (literacy programs through theater),
Sequencer LA (international digital conference), A Ship In The Woods (music and art festival in San Diego), and War Stories (story telling about the history of punk rock) to name a few.
