Director of Social Media (Brand & Growth)
FlightStory
London, ENThis is a Full Time Job
Director, Social (Brand & Growth)
MISSION
You run short form for FlightStory, across our new creator IP and the creators we sign. You treat it as a business in its own right, which means you own what we make, what it earns, the system that produces it, and the team and platform relationships behind it.
At this level you also shape what comes next. Short form is where we test ideas, prove and scale audiences and develop the IP the wider slate gets built from.
OUTCOMES
1. Run short form as a business.
You own the plan, the number and the standard, and you sit in the room where the slate gets decided.
• Set the strategy and business plan for short form across IP and the signed creator roster, and own delivery against it.
• Bring audience and commercial evidence into slate and commissioning decisions, so what we make next is informed by what the feed already proves.
• Hold the standard across every show and creator, with a leadership layer beneath you running the day to day.
Outcome: Short form operates as a business line with its own plan, its own number, and a voice in what the company makes next.
2. Build brand worlds people recognise.
Each show and creator should have a recognisable identity in short form. Someone scrolling knows it's ours within a few seconds, even without a logo.
• Own the identity of each brand in vertical: how it looks, how it sounds, how it behaves.
• Build repeatable formats and characters that people actively follow.
• Protect tone of voice and brand across every creator and every IP.
Outcome: Distinct, ownable brand worlds. Audiences who come back on purpose.
3. Grow formats into properties.
The ambition is that the best of our formats become things we could build a show or a brand around.
• Spot which ideas have that potential, and prototype them quickly.
• Build the evidence to take them further: audience, retention, commercial pull.
• Take the strongest to production or to market, and stay close as they develop.
Outcome: Formats born in vertical graduate into IP the business can build on
4. Lead the revenue number.
The money comes from two places: what the platforms pay us when our content performs, and what we make directly from formats that sponsors fund or that we sell and license.
• Own forecasting, reporting, pitching and contracts across the function and the creator pipeline.
• Build formats designed to be ad-funded, sold or licensed, alongside formats built to drive organic revenue.
• Bring revenue into the conversation while an idea is being conceived.
• Lead the growth engine on platforms where we can monetise our content, while always upholding the standards of our brands
Outcome: Social carries a forecast and hits it, with a direct revenue line built alongside what the platforms pay through indirects.
5. Build the system that makes it.
At the volume we publish, the system does the work.
• Own the production line end to end - briefing, editing, review, publishing schedule - with AI and tooling embedded so the system carries the volume.
• Write down the playbook for launching a new creator's social presence, so each launch runs on a proven model.
• Run everything on testing: experiments on a regular cycle, one shared way of measuring performance across all shows and creators, and lessons from one brand applied to the rest.
Outcome: Volume and quality rise together, and the system holds as the roster grows.
6. Own the relationships. Build the bench.
You hold the senior relationships outside, and the standard inside.
• Hold the senior relationships at TikTok, Meta and YouTube, so we hear about new features and get support ahead of the market.
• Be the person creators and agencies want to work with, and represent FlightStory as our senior voice on social.
• Hire people who raise the standard, build the management layer beneath you, develop people deliberately and promote from within.
Outcome: We move ahead of platform change, and the team creates excellent work without you in every room.
7. Be the best partner for external creators
We have a signed roster of high profile, external creators for whom we manage their social accounts. Creators and their teams should see FlightStory as a best-in-class, trusted partner for optimising monetisation of their social audiences.
• Own onboarding for every new creator, from signing through to content strategy and launch
• Build and hold the relationships with creators' management teams, agents and representatives, including expectations, escalations and renewals.
• Run creator-facing reporting: one clear, regular view of growth, revenue and what's driving it, so partners always know how their channels are performing.
• Keep improving what we offer: new formats, platforms and revenue streams, plus the tools and platform access others can't match, so our proposition beats agencies and in-house teams.
Outcome: External creators grow faster with us, continue with us, and are ambassadors for our work.
COMPETENCIES
• Brand builder. You've built identities and formats in short form that people recognise and return to.
• High taste in vertical. You know what makes a few seconds land and hold, and you can say why.
• Format instinct. You can tell the difference between a clip that worked and an idea that can carry a franchise.
• Commercial ownership. You've carried a revenue number in social and you know how platform monetisation works at scale.
• Direct monetisation. You've built content that sells: ad-funded formats, sponsorship, licensing.
• Systems and playbook thinking. You build repeatable models others execute within, and you write them down so they travel.
• Data over guesswork. You read platform and audience data fast, and you let evidence settle the call.
• Platform relationships. You have senior contacts at TikTok, Meta and YouTube, and a record of turning them into advantage.
• Builds leaders. You hire above your level, build a management layer, and grow people into bigger jobs.
• Director-level presence. You set direction, hold a standard, and carry weight in a room of senior operators.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
• Our brands are instantly recognisable in short form, with formats audiences follow.
• Revenue targets hit, on a forecast the business can plan against.
• At least one format proven as something we can sell or license.
• At least one format grown into standalone IP.
• Audiences grow month on month across the roster, measured on one shared basis.
• People flow from short form into our longer content and owned channels, visible in reporting.
• The team creates excellent work without you in every room, and senior roles get filled from within.
YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF
• You believe short form is an IP development craft in its own right.
• You want to build brand worlds people belong to.
• You'd rather build the model that works ten times than the viral post that worked once.
• You back your taste and then let the data settle it.
• You see no tension between commercial thinking and creative standards.
• You want to own a P&L and a plan, with the latitude that comes with it.
• You are energised by pace and volume, and you build the systems that make both compound.
• You develop people deliberately, and you take real pride in it.
• You want to be in the room, in person, with a team operating at a very high standard.
