Film Streams, Omaha's nonprofit dedicated to the presentation and discussion of film as art, is looking for a full-time Director of Theater Operations to join our team. This person is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day operations of our two arthouse cinemas. This person is an integral part of the senior leadership team, overseeing all aspects of daily theater activities and facilities maintenance. This person is responsible for developing, implementing, refining, and upholding operational procedures that contribute to an outstanding patron experience. The Director of Theater Operations manages and is supported by an Assistant General Manager, two Associate Managers, and the Head Projectionist.
Primary Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and direction for all daily theater operations resulting in an outstanding experience for Film Streams' constituents
• Oversee all aspects of the patron experience at Film Streams' venues, including box office interface (in person and digital), concessions operations, and film presentation
• Drive the implementation of new practices and procedures by developing action plans and motivating and instructing staff in how to implement them effectively
• Plan, communicate, and delegate appropriate responsibilities to ensure smooth and efficient operations at both venues
• Manage and track budget(s) for theater operations, including staffing, supplies, equipment needs and facilities maintenance, and vendor services
• Oversee the hiring, training, and performance review of all front-of-house staff
• Provide coaching and direction to Operations staff, and identify issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement as needed
• Serve as a role model in maintaining a safe and welcoming culture for all constituents, including staff, volunteers, patrons, and partners
• Serve as a point-of-connection among administrative and front-of-house staff to ensure that existing processes and new practices are communicated and implemented
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of ticketing and concessions points of sale systems and procedures, and proactively identify and implement improvements as needed
• Oversee facilities management, including building and equipment needs at both locations, and manage maintenance and inspection schedules and contracts
• Serve as point of contact with restaurant partner at the Dundee Theater on operational needs and updates in order to maintain a strong partnership and smooth operations for both parties
• Oversee all operational scheduling, including showtimes, staffing, and volunteer coordination
• Oversee management of facility rentals and bookings
• Manage operational vendor relationships, invoices, and budget tracking
• Oversee the coordination of all aspects of film presentation to ensure timely and accurate receipt and testing of all content, including features, trailers, and other on-screen content
• Demonstrate mastery of cash flow procedures and Film Streams internal controls policies, and assist in training and supervising Box Office and Concessions staff with payment methods, cash handling, and preparation of daily deposits in accordance with those policies
Preferred Qualifications, Experience & Expectations
• At least three to five years of experience in theater management, event management, and/or service industry management.
• Experience managing, training, and mentoring staff/ high EQ
• Exceptional judgment and ability to proactively resolve issues as they arise
• Passion for excellent customer service and understanding of what it takes to create and maintain an outstanding patron experience
• Facilities and building maintenance experience preferred
• Experience using and managing POS systems
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Outstanding attention to detail
• Facility learning computer scheduling programs
• Experience with film projection and presentation sound systems a plus
