The Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund (''Fund'') is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization based in Van Nuys, CA. Its mission is to support producers issuing residuals to musicians who performed a film or television score under an AFM collective bargaining Agreement.

We are seeking a compassionate and thorough HR Generalist to manage and support human resources functions within our organization. The individual in this role will foster our organizational values to promote the company culture we strive to maintain. The ideal candidate is experienced in key HR disciplines including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and HR policy implementation. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and confidentiality. Payroll and benefits administration is managed by Finance & Accounting; however, the HR Generalist will be required to provide support and collaborate on various projects relating to HR policies involving payroll and benefits.
The HR Generalist will collaborate across departments to ensure consistent application of HR practices, support employee engagement initiatives, and maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records. They will also play a key role in supporting training and development programs, performance review cycles, and exemplifying our values.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working independently, is solutions-oriented, and enjoys balancing administrative tasks with collaborative and strategic support to management and staff alike.
Responsibilities:
Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training including safety training, anti-harassment training, violence in the workplace prevention, etc. This also includes maintenance of mandatory postings.
Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings and supports managers through the talent acquisition process.
Manages the talent acquisition and onboarding processes including acquiring background checks, preparing offer letters, confidentiality agreements, telecommuting agreements, employee eligibility verifications, etc.
Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; training and development, etc.
Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, and manages offboarding procedures.
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Performs other duties as assigned, including supporting CAO in event planning and execution for staff luncheons and fiscal year end event.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
HR Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred, but not required
3+ years of related work experience in HR roles required
Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Well organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter
Must have integrity, honesty, and an ethical mentality
Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative
