We're looking for a motivated full-time Finance Payroll Coordinator to work alongside our team of experienced production accountants in our Westside office and act as the main liaison between the company and the third party-payroll provider Media Services in order to process payroll. This position supports the Finance / Accounting Dept, maintains a working knowledge of all active shows and payroll cycles, as well as manages deadlines, establishes best practices to ensure payroll is completed in a timely fashion and works with all departments of the company to ensure compliance. This person will play a key role in the daily payroll and accounting needs for all of our productions and should see this opportunity as an amazing learning experience with room for growth. We currently have 30+ active projects (docu-series / unscripted / commercials) and are searching looking for a confident self-starter with experience / interest in the industry.
Essential Functions:
*Acts as first review of each production's weekly payroll looking out for errors or discrepancies in regards to overtime, meal penalties, worker's comp percentages, state withholdings, kit rental backups, mileage records, benefit deductions, and per diems;
*Works with Production heads and HR to ensure worked hours/days are accurately reflected and terms submitted on timecard are accurate to the active deal memo;
*Communicates timely and accurately with third party paymaster to secure a final payroll edit in time for payroll to be processed weekly;
*Ensures all backup paperwork like kit rental agreements and mileage forms are IRS compliant;
*Receives and digitally files all completed start packets and deal memos to the appropriate show folders;
*Responsible for saving all payroll documents into our online filing system (Google Drive);
*Coordinates with the accounting team in order to ensure all documents are accounted for and properly tracked.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
*The position requires an individual comfortable with working independently and in a team environment;
*This position requires the highest level of detail and confidentiality to be maintained at all times;
*A basic understanding of the Entertainment/ Television Production Industry;
*Involves heavy email correspondence so strong communication skills is a must.
Qualifications:
2-3 years of relevant work experience in Payroll; Entertainment experience is not necessary but a working knowledge of television production and the entertainment industry is a big plus;
An Accounting background is not required, but an interest in the Accounting field is beneficial
A general knowledge of Labor Laws, specifically California and New York; additional supplementary knowledge of international labor law is a plus;
An understanding of unions and guilds is a plus
Experience with entertainment accounting software such as Cast & Crew, Media Services, EP Smart Accounting, or CAPS is a plus
Self starter, excited to learn about our business and be part of a stong Accounting / Finance team.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and comfortable with macOS.
Our current expectation is this job can be done from home 1-2 days a week, subject to change.
