Fairchild Media Group is seeking a Social Media Director to lead social strategy across WWD, Footwear News, Beauty Inc. and Sourcing Journal. This includes driving audience growth, developing platform-specific content strategies and overseeing day-to-day operations. The role directs all platforms, including emerging ones, translating FMG’s editorial into compelling platform-native storytelling while partnering with reporters, photo and video editors, art directors, and colleagues across marketing, sales and events teams.
As FMG values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and execute social strategy across all four FMG brands, tailored to each publication’s audience and voice, with a focus on reach, engagement, follower growth, referral traffic and video consumption.
• Lead daily editorial programming and prioritization, identifying stories and moments with the strongest social potential, and packaging breaking news, fashion, beauty, business, celebrity and cultural coverage for each platform.
• Oversee social packaging and rollout of key print products, including WWD Weekend, Beauty Inc and Footwear News issues and covers, coordinating cover reveals, features, talent assets, photography and video.
• Lead short-form video strategy across Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Facebook; work with editors and video teams on social-first concepts, optimize existing editorial video and expand distribution through channels including Connatix.
• Direct social planning and real-time coverage for all Fashion Weeks, the Golden Globes, awards season, red carpets and FMG events, including staffing, assignments, content formats, asset flow and publishing schedules.
• Guide editors and contributors on capturing social-first footage, interviews, and other event content, while identifying real-time opportunities around runway, backstage, front row, celebrity and breaking-news moments.
• Partner with sales and marketing on sponsored and branded social programs, balancing client deliverables, approvals and timelines with editorial quality and platform best practices.
• Monitor performance across platforms and translate reach, engagement, follower growth, watch time, referral traffic and content trends into actionable programming, reporting and resource management.
• Build and strengthen social communities, maintain platform and brand best practices, and advise editorial and senior leadership on audience behavior, emerging formats and growth opportunities.
• Manage and develop social staff, freelancers and contributors; establish workflows, coverage schedules and publishing standards and train editorial teams on social-first storytelling.
• Evaluate emerging platforms, AI-powered tools and new technologies that can improve ideation, editing, repurposing, optimization and workflow efficiency while maintaining editorial standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 7 years of experience leading social strategy and managing a team. Experienced in social media, digital editorial or audience development, ideally within media, publishing, fashion, beauty or entertainment.
• Strong editorial judgment and deep knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Pinterest, short-form video and platform-native storytelling.
• Demonstrated ability to use analytics and audience insights to inform strategy, content development and performance reporting.
• Experience managing multiple brands, live events, breaking news, sponsored programs and competing deadlines in a fast-paced editorial environment.
• Strong communication, organization and leadership skills; familiarity with social publishing, analytics, video-editing, creative and AI-powered tools.
At PMC, we believe working in a highly collaborative, office-first environment fosters real-time communication, spontaneous idea sharing, and stronger interpersonal relationships that drive innovation and team cohesion. PMC prioritizes in-person collaboration and does not offer remote-only roles.
