We are seeking an innovative and technically adept 3D Scanning Technical Director to lead the development and optimization of our 3D scanning data workflows and technical infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in pipeline development, automation, and the integration of scan data into 3D, VFX, and game environments. As a 3D Scanning Technical Director, you will be responsible for ensuring seamless data flow, pipeline efficiency, and technical reliability across all scanning projects, while collaborating closely with engineers, R&D, and post-production teams to deliver robust, scalable, and automated solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain automated processing tools and scripts to streamline scan data workflows
• Develop and optimize technical infrastructure to ensure reliable and efficient data flow across all stages of the pipeline
• Integrate scan data into 3D, VFX, and game production pipelines, ensuring compatibility and usability
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to data alignment, mesh processing, and texture integration
• Research, evaluate, and implement new scanning software, hardware, and pipeline improvements to maintain cutting-edge workflows
• Support supervisors and production teams with technical setup, troubleshooting, and ongoing pipeline enhancements
• Collaborate with engineers, R&D, and post-production teams to ensure technical requirements and project goals are met
• Maintain and improve systems for data optimization, automation, and scalability, ensuring scan data is efficiently processed and ready for use
Qualifications
• 5 years of experience in technical pipeline development or a related role within 3D scanning, VFX, or game production
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Advanced proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, MEL, and Bash
• Experience with DCC applications including Maya, Houdini, and Unreal Engine
• Strong understanding of pipeline APIs, photogrammetry, and point cloud processing tools
• Demonstrated ability to develop, automate, and optimize complex data workflows
• Excellent troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
• Meticulous attention to detail and a focus on data integrity and technical reliability
• Proven ability to research and implement emerging technologies and workflow improvements
• Experience supporting supervisors and production teams in a technical capacity
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment
