Sound Designer - ESPN Creative Studio
Job Summary:
The Sound Designer at ESPN Creative Studio is responsible for overseeing sound design projects that enhance creative content across ESPN’s domestic and international platforms. This role includes managing audio projects, collaborating with production partners, providing feedback, and training team members. The Sound Designer will utilize tools like Pro Tools, Premiere, Logic, and others to ensure high-quality sound design and audio sweetening.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee audio projects both independently and as part of the Sound Design team.
• Develop editors' audio sweetening skills and workflows.
• Stay updated on industry audio trends and maintain knowledge of audio sweetening techniques.
• Collaborate with production partners to ensure efficient use of resources and personnel.
• Perform audio sweetening on a wide range of assignments using industry-standard equipment.
• Recommend adjustments to project workflows while maintaining creativity and flexibility.
• Assist in training and development initiatives to improve the team's audio competency.
• Troubleshoot equipment and software issues when necessary.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Minimum of 2 years of audio sweetening or related experience.
• Experience mixing with Avid Pro Tools.
• Knowledge of time-based processing (reverb, delay, etc.).
• Knowledge of spectral processing (EQ, filters, etc.).
• Knowledge of dynamic processing (compression, gates, etc.).
• Ability to work in a team under tight deadlines.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office, Slack, OneDrive).
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Flexibility to work overtime and alter shifts/days off to accommodate projects.
Preferred:
• Proficient in Avid Pro Tools and signal flow.
• Knowledge of sound effects libraries and librarian software such as Soundminer.
• Experience using noise reduction tools like Izotope RX.
• Familiarity with sound for picture workflows.
• Skills in sound effects, dialogue, and music editing.
• Experience organizing sound effects libraries.
• Knowledge of Adobe Media Encoder.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Required Education:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Sound Recording, Audio, Music, or a related field.
• Vocational School or related experience.
