Position Overview:
ESPN is seeking a Social Media Specialist I who will work in a hybrid editor/producer role that involves social copywriting, video editing, content discovery, and social distribution strategy. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team environment, have a flexible work schedule, and possess a strong desire for learning. This position reports to a Sr. Social Media Specialist or Social Media Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in shaping, creating, and distributing social content for sports fans across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
• Discover User Generated Content that resonates with ESPN Social's audience and brand.
• Follow ESPN Social standards, including adherence to news and reporting guidelines.
• Generate new ideas for building account engagement and growth.
• Support colleagues in making social content and copy compelling and platform-appropriate.
• Utilize social data regularly to inform content decisions.
• Post highlights of various live sports events to engage the social-first fan.
• Work regular night and weekend shifts as required by the nature of sports events.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in social media or a related field.
• Fundamental skills in social media writing, photo editing, and video editing.
• Strong knowledge of the sports landscape, including current athletes, rules, events, and ESPN programming.
• Appreciation for and understanding of internet pop culture and its role in sports.
• Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong news judgment.
• Experience using video editing software (e.g., Final Cut, Premiere).
• Experience using photo editing software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign).
Education:
• High school diploma required.
