Full Time Job
The Project Manager, Original Content works with the VP, Original Content and the Coordinating Producer in LA for the shows: SportsNation, The Jump, and Jalen & Jacoby; and for future projects that may launch out of the Original Content group in the Global Business Strategy & Original Content division of ESPN. This role manages the production process for special show projects as the complete process owner from inception to execution including sourcing and maintaining vendors, setting and staying within budget, and working across ESPN divisions in LA on special shoots, remotes and specialty episodes that these shows and future shows may take on.
Responsibilities
• Manages special show projects in the Original Content group.
• Responsible for remote planning and execution for 3 current shows in LA: SportsNation, The Jump, and Jalen & Jacoby when these shows use remote locations. Leader on site surveys, venue interfacing, and operations collaboration/planning. Sets deadlines and manages the team on hitting them.
• Communicates with Programming, Operations, Creative Services, and Facilities & Security to coordinate all shows and shoots assigned, including anything outside normal show windows.
• In charge of sourcing and maintaining vendor contracts and accounts; taking responsibility to ensure we are using our resources appropriately and on budget.
• Creates and reviews project performance metrics to determine return on investment. Evaluates and develops efficiencies within the show groups.
• Independently researches for special projects and show elements.
• Accountable for creating a collaborative work environment; troubleshooting cross-departmental and internal show workflow issues.
• Takes initiative to develop creative concepts within the Original Content group; managing overall planning and progress towards execution.
• Proactively forecasts issues before they arise and lead the effort to problem solve.
• Responsible for benchmarking new techniques and bring them to the team regarding new leadership and project management skills.
• Support established relationships with counterparts and management in any applicable business unit or department at ESPN or outside contacts as deemed necessary in the course of business.
Basic Qualifications
• 5 years in television production or related experience.
• Possesses a high level of organizational skills.
• Comprehensive experience with productions at ESPN, in the field, and at outside studios. Knows ESPN workflows.
• Experience managing production budgets.
• Candidates must have good computer background (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc...) and solid communication skills and be able to multi-task.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility to alter shifts/days off to accommodate projects and departmental objectives.
Required Education
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
