Job Summary:
The ESPN Feature Producer I will be responsible for project management of ESPN series and specials produced by third party production companies, which includes logistical support as well as creative input on the content. The Feature Producer will be a key part of the ESPN Original Content Production team, and also work closely with the Director, ESPN Studio Development and Management as shows are created and shaped as the platform matures. When needed, this Feature Producer will also produce content elements as assigned by Senior Management with attention to editorial structure and creative visuals, including field producing interviews and b-roll.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with and oversees the work of third-party production companies and freelancers working on ESPN series and specials.
• Manages multiple series and specials at a time, overseeing budgets, deliverables and relaying notes to outside production companies.
• Being a creative and logistical producer on projects primarily being made out-of-house. Being hands on with creative decisions, budgetary decisions and notes as cuts come in.
• Supporting the Director, ESPN Studio Development and Management as the Director creates systems and strategies around green lighting new shows and shaping existing ones.
• Occasionally produces pilots and creative content from concept to completion for ESPN - strong budget management and storytelling skills essential
• Generates, researches and pitches content ideas with an eye towards increasing and sustaining subscriptions to ESPN .
• Presents work for review to the responsible EP at regular intervals and milestones.
• When appropriate provides feedback and mentoring to Associate Producers and Production Assistants.
• Pushes the envelope creatively while working within confines of budget restrictions of particular assignments.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years experience in studio and/or long form production
• Strong storytelling background, with experience in research and production.
• Has strong communication and writing skills.
• Works independently.
• Proven ability to supervise effectively
• Exceptional budget and resource management skills.
• Specific knowledge of television production techniques.
• Ability to shoot and edit with knowledge of camera and post production innovations is a plus.
