Digital Audio Producer II
Job Summary:
The Digital Audio Producer II will be responsible for the development and production of a series of digital audio podcasts within a specific genre or category, a podcast ''vertical.'' Some shows will be produced personally, while many will be produced by those this person manages. The Digital Audio Producer II works daily with the Digital Audio Senior Director/Program Director, staff and talent, as well as internal and external content, business, and distribution partners. This person will be involved in both short and long-range content strategy and planning of the shows as well as sales integration at the episode, title, and podcast vertical levels. The Digital Audio Producer II communicates expectations and delivers feedback to talent and staff, and will oversee and manage direct reports. Responsibilities will include related strategic plans, operational tasks and assignments.
Responsibilities:
• Develops, enhances, and advances specific story ideas and concepts both in daily productions and for long-term planning. Understands and executes ESPN content priorities in planning show rundowns and integrating with other ESPN platforms; regularly leads podcast productions.
• Demonstrates strong understanding of production principles designed to drive audio consumption across various platforms including but not limited to podcast downloads. Some titles may be presented on other platforms such as social media, smart speakers, or digital video and will have similar expected metrics.
• Supervises the compiling and editing of production materials necessary for all relevant platforms. Works with colleagues engaged in similar productions in the development of compelling cross-promotional content. Ensures that the productions follow format and procedural guidelines; supervises and tracks all sales executions and promotions.
• Must have a strong understanding of how to operate audio hardware, software, and facilities.
• Maintains thorough knowledge of relevant sports stories and newsmakers; books relevant guests for program appearances accordingly.
• Will assist in the recruitment and development of studio talent. Provides creative and editorial guidelines to on-air commentators in order to enrich quality of programming.
• Will work with sales and marketing to develop sales and marketing strategies across the podcast lineup, as well as ensuring placement and execution of commercials and relevant promotional announcements at the episode level. Contributes ideas for sales opportunities. Coordinates with marketing team around key events, from planning to execution as well as in regular promotion of the show on internal platforms (TV/Radio) as well as with external distribution partners (Apple, Google, etc).
• Must have strong skills in the area of social media/listener engagement. Producer will develop overall audience development strategy for relevant podcasts working with the marketing team.
• Participate in meetings/directives from ESPN Audio Content Leadership as needed, and lead communication/direction of production teams as necessary.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 4 years of radio/audio production and thorough knowledge of writing and audio production, with a minimum of 2 years' experience managing/leading others.
• Deep passion and knowledge in a wide range of subject areas related to sports.
• Knowledge of podcasting and digital audio industry.
• Strong familiarity with ESPN content across all platforms.
• Must have a strong understanding of how to operate audio hardware, software, and facilities.
• Demonstrated writing ability.
• Demonstrated digital editing expertise using ProTools audio editing software.
• Ability to work varied shifts.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with digital audio and podcast content production is preferred.
• Sports writing and/or radio experience preferred.
Required Education
• High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in communications or journalism
