Job Summary:
ESPN Production Operations is a unit within the Production division of ESPN Content. Our staff comprises Network Operations, Edit, Studio, Production Control Rooms, Operations Specialists, Facility Resources and Business Operations. Production Operations staffs the operational positions (camera, editing, master control, technical directing, etc.) that support domestic and international studio and event programming and network operations.
The Coordinating Audio Design Editor is an experienced, knowledgeable, and well-versed non-linear audio editor and oversees the mixing of audio, creation of sound effects and sweetening audio for features, animations, and other visual enhancements in ESPN Productions. They should demonstrate exceptional level in non-linear audio editing, assists with the organization and scheduling of projects, enables file-based workflows and deliveries to client approval services and systems in the broadcast delivery chain, maintains upkeep of audio effects library, software and equipment in the edit suite to be in line with the highest industry standards.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrates leadership & expert sound design skills, which may include high profile audio editing and sound creation, media management, routers, archival media, restore and ingest systems. Must be able to perform under strict timelines with little supervision.
• Interacts with multiple file storage devices and comply with department archiving practices.
• Collaborates with Producers / project managers to generate high quality programing and advertising materials. Consistent with national program and marketing campaigns.
• Conducts the highest level of quality control measuring and takes corrective action to enhance the product/content.
• Assists with organization, scheduling, and prioritizing projects with resource and management teams based on time and resources available.
• Establishes and implements plan for regular scheduled maintenance projects with resource and management teams based on time and resources available.
• Embraces new technologies and workflow to create accurate and efficient results in specific assignments and make recommendations for hardware and software audio editing systems.
• Makes recommendations, as necessary, to change and/or enhance departmental SOP's and other policies.
• Identifies problems, recommends solutions and/or resolves operational errors and equipment failures.
• Researches and acquires audio resources to expand in-house sound library.
• Leads effort to building original sounds via Foley and Field recording
• Executes local or remote voice-over recordings using isdn connections or Source Connect application
• Designs sound elements for animated video elements.
• Mixes sound elements for features, long form productions and other visual elements.
• Acoustically matches dialogue for video elements with on camera interviews and performances.
• Participates in training programs, (physical, classroom, virtual, etc.) for personal career development, new equipment and/or workflow changes within the operation. Also expected to participate in the training of others and generate training documentation. Will influence training programs and timelines for staff development.
• Documents and/or files reports, as necessary, on specific working conditions, equipment status, at the request of management.
• Communicates with counterparts in various departments, vested stakeholders across the company and external clients.
• Provides exceptional service to all customers, as defined and assigned by management.
Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of six years of audio sound design or related experience, college internship or related work in a large market or network level television.
• Expert mixing board, computer-based DAW mixing, sweetening and mix-to-picture capabilities.
• Proven proficiency with a wide range of tools, technologies and platforms for sound design and audio post-production: Pro Tool, Sound Forge, Waves, MIDI Sequencers, Final Cut Pro, outboard processors and other audio software/hardware.
• Strong background in and expert knowledge of signal processing for 3D positional audio mixing and mastering (5.1, 7.1, Dolby, etc.)
• Must be up to date with latest advancements and bugs regarding Pro Tools and other audio software and hardware to trouble shoot technical issues.
• Candidates must have good computer background (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc...) and expert written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to teach best practices and latest advancement in Pro Tools and hardware and software listed above.
• Strong attention to detail, an inner passion for doing great work.
• Vivid audio imagination, proven creativity and a deep understanding of storytelling via sound design.
• Demonstrates sound communication with timely follow up and problem solving
• Highly developed knowledge of broadcast, digital and social methods, workflow, equipment, facility layout, and troubleshooting practices as they relate to operational assignments.
• Advanced understanding of workflow in other business units, including their impact and/or specific integration in Production Operations.
• Ability to work independently, manage simultaneous projects, and follow through on assignments.
• Ability to understand and communicate complex information and effectively communicate problem solving efforts, results, and resolutions.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility to alter shifts/days off to accommodate projects and departmental objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of editing Platforms (Avid, Adobe Suite, etc.)
• Knowledge of both Mac and PC operating systems.
• Bilingual (written and spoken) in both English and Spanish.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Studio Production, Journalism, or related field
• Vocational School or related experience
